Warming up for Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival
European Premiere of Bluegrass Country Soul (1971) at KINO |
Without the 1971 film Bluegrass Country Soul, there would be no Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival. This American documentary was the very inspiration for festival director Guido de Groot. The film never made it to European cinemas, but we're about to change that. How amazing is that?! Live performance and Q&A with the director On Wednesday evening, July 2, you can watch Bluegrass Country Soul at one of Rotterdam's coziest cinemas: KINO. And that's not all... director Albert Ihde and his wife Ellen Pasternack are flying in from the U.S. for a special Q&A that very evening. After the screening, enjoy a live bluegrass performance in the foyer. By whom? That's our little secret - for now! About the film Bluegrass Country Soul is a celebration packed with legendary moments featuring bluegrass pioneers in top form, like Earl Scruggs, The Country Gentlemen and Jimmy Martin. The festival at its heart marked the early rise of bluegrass worldwide, in part thanks to touring bands like The Bluegrass 45, and saw the birth of 'New Grass.' Tony Rice even made his first appearance with J.D. Crowe's band - the beginning of The New South. A must-see for all bluegrass fans - both purists and newcomers alike! |
